KEY CONCEPTS:
- The lowest exponential energy arrangement of electrons in called ground state: predicted by rules know as Aufbau Principle.
- The Pauli exclusion principle describes the restriction on the placement of the electrons into the same orbital. It states that, "If two electrons occupy the same orbital, they must have opposite spins."
- Hund's Rule is a very important rule. It describes how electrons are distributed among orbitals of the same sublevels. The rule states that; electrons will pair up in an orbital only when all orbitals in the same sublevel have one electron. It also says that when single electrons occupy different orbitals of the same sublevel, they all have the same spin.
